What Fitness Means To Me - Sharat Nath
Fitness today has created an entire revolution in the way people think and feel about being physically and mentally healthy I for one am all for this. Allow me to explain what I mean.
According to Google, fitness is defined as "the condition of being physically fit and healthy"
To me fitness means not only this, but so much more. We tend to think about the physical aspect as the only one that falls under fitness, but I’ve learned about how it extends beyond this over the past few years. Fitness has been a friend to me, a coping mechanism and a form of discipline and mediation.
Fitness has taught me a lot about life. I follow a regular regime with a balanced diet and regular exercise and I’ve found the right balance for myself – everyone has their own and you only find it once you start. We often complain about fitness not being a sustainable element in one’s lifestyle, but once you lock in a routine and find your balance, things get easier. This discipline helped me as an entrepreneur too. I’ve learnt patience, time management, focus, importance of work/life balance and so much more at the gym.
Fitness has helped me personally-
Personally for me, fitness has been the one friend I can fall back on for great company after a long day at work. Fitness is that one friend that keeps me on my toes - together with a light balanced diet which gives me energy. Its a great feeling to be aware of your body and how important it is to look after it. And the best part? You are always a student in this field of health and fitness, something I find to be very challenging and exciting.
There have been times when I’ve been exhausted – mentally more than physically. But it’s fitness and training that have helped to keep me mentally intact, getting me through the toughest of days. It’s definitely my meditation, because that one hour in the gym or doing yoga or enjoying a walk, is mine alone and no one else’s. Just me and my thoughts.
I’m more confident, more self-assured and overall a happier person, and my pursuit of fitness has a large role to play in my character development.
Fitness has helped me professionally-
Not only on a personal level, but also professionally I’ve benefited greatly from leading a ‘fit’ lifestyle. The idea of getting used to hard work and focusing every day becomes a part of your thought process and helps you in whatever task is at hand – for me it was my business, taking care of family responsibilities and finding a sustainable work/life balance.
The discipline needed to pursue fitness and indulge in healthy choices has taught me a lot and helped me streamline my work/life. Time management and discipline have helped make work more productive and align my day better, so I can give enough time to fitness, work and family equally.
You see, fitness is so much more…..
